The Conwy and North Wales Area was reformed about
10 years ago, to separate it from the geographically discrete North West Area.
The Conwy title was added to distinguish it (CNW) from the Northwest (NW) area.
Although many members boats are kept in Conwy, there is a thriving gaffer
element based in the slate harbour of Port Penryhn, as well as in the Menai
Staights and Holyhead. The area has now returned to its original name of
North Wales Area (NWa)
The two main sailing events of the area are held
at Conwy and Holyhead in August / September.
During the Conwy River Festival in early August, around 50 Nobbies
(Morecambe Bay Prawners), gaffers and classic yachts take to the waters of Conwy
Bay.

2007 saw the inaugural event at Holyhead. The
success of this meeting means that it will be repeated annually at the end of
August. Additionally, an informal event will be arranged to co-incide with the
Holyhead Maritime Festival at the end of July.
Lower key sailing and non-sailing events are
orgainsed throughout the year, including the annual general meeting and dinner
at Holyhead Sailing
Club
The area's own newsletter "Baggywrinkles" is sent
out to members at intervals during the year.
The area also ran the small boat event at
Derwentwater in the Lake District. This was replaced in 2007 with a major event
in Holyhead for both large and small gaffers .
